So you take a lake,
Build levees and dikes,
Construct canals,
Divert a river,
Pump out the water,
Voila!
Fertile farmland!
You look at the mountains,
Cut down the trees,
Clearcut the hillsides,
Set up a sawmill,
Voila!
Lumber for buildings,
You accept complacency,
Years on rains come
As they have for centuries,
Landslides and flash floods,
Total destruction,
Voila!
Climate Change!

Beneath our feet
Grinding, crumbling, groaning,
Plates sliding, slipping, sticking,
Above, governments confused,

With good, bad, no intentions,
The sane among us sit in the sun
Sipping tea and coffee resigned
To the fact that sooner or later
Something has to give.
