As We Struggle
As we struggle
Through whatever it is
That keeps us going,
Never really knowing,
Oh, we have stories and myths
That perhaps, maybe,
But who knows for sure,
Sensing there are cycles
Portended by corruption, greed,
Incompetent, immature leaders,
A complacent society,
Hearing the echoes of
Two world wars, the Jewish
Catastrophe,
The world against Trump,
Now the Western world against
Russia,
Realizing how stupid and small
We really are,
How intelligent and wonderful
We could be.

Beneath our feet
Grinding, crumbling, groaning,
Plates sliding, slipping, sticking,
Above, governments confused,
Deceiving, plotting, scheming,
With good, bad, no intentions,
The sane among us sit in the sun
Sipping tea and coffee resigned
To the fact that sooner or later
Something has to give.
