Sometimes appear to be

When you realize what
A Rhodes Scholar is,
Why does the song
Mad World
Come to mind,
Why are security cameras
In London for your safety
In Beijing draconian,
If you think Churchill sleeping
In a siren suit was weird,
What about Pelosi in his
Underwear with a hammer,
Does Chatham House
Hand out treats on Halloween.

Beneath our feet
Grinding, crumbling, groaning,
Plates sliding, slipping, sticking,
Above, governments confused,
Deceiving, plotting, scheming,
With good, bad, no intentions,
The sane among us sit in the sun
Sipping tea and coffee resigned
To the fact that sooner or later
Something has to give.
