You may have heard
About the sixties crisis,
Khrushchev beat the podium,
Some said with a shoe,
Ph.D.’s didn’t know
What to do,
People practiced diving
Under desks and tables,
The US shot their President
And others who might ident,
And Mao made a bomb,
Fast forward to the twenties,
They renamed the flu a 19 pandemic,
PhD’s didn’t know
What to do,
People sat and stood
Masked in painted circles,
The US had an ice cream cone
For President,
Railroaded those who did not consent,
The climate crazies blew up a pipeline,
Blamed it on Sunday sailors
In a rented boat,
And China and Russia
Met over ice cream floats.

Beneath our feet
Grinding, crumbling, groaning,
Plates sliding, slipping, sticking,
Above, governments confused,
Deceiving, plotting, scheming,
With good, bad, no intentions,
The sane among us sit in the sun
Sipping tea and coffee resigned
To the fact that sooner or later
Something has to give.
