A Canadian
A smart-ass immigrant
Asked the old man sipping
His coffee at the corner table,
What is a Canadian – the country
Is not yet two-hundred years old –
You haven’t had time to define it,
The old man looked up and said,
Like you we are all descendants
Of pissed off immigrants who came
Here to get away from jackasses and to
Build a life of freedom, tolerance, respect,
Listen to some Gordon Lightfoot,
Read some Pierre Burton, Leonard Cohen,
Michael Ondaatje, Conrad Black, Jordon Peterson,
They will lead you to others and will help you to
Untie the knot of pissed off immigrants
Who were and are Canadians.
